My tank has been up for about two months and for the past week i have been battling fine stringy brown stuff. It coats the sand, rock and corals, everyday I come home from work and blow it off with a turkey baster, by the next day it is back. When will it end ? It does not trap air bubbles like a dino or cyano. My PH is 8.2, Amm 0, Nitrite 0, and Nitrate 10ppm. I have been doing water changes but it has not helped.

    Here is a picture.

You will need to get your phosphates down to less than .05ppm and your nitrates to less than 2ppm. Use granulated ferric oxide(GFO) in a reactor if at all possible and change it monthly or semi monthly until the stuff goes away. You should also use carbon and change it every 2 weeks of sooner also. Start skimming wet also to help reduce the food source for the stuff. A refugium with cheato would probably help also. Run the light on the fuge when your display lights are off.

Have you added a cleanup crew yet? Thatight help. If your tank is still cycling you may just have to wait that stuff out.

2in10 good advice. Try a phosphate reactor if u don't already have one. Keep up on your water changes with good R/O DI water and keep filters clean an wet skim. May take some time to get it to stop.

x2, silicates are in the tank. I had the same thing it went away in 2 weeks, but as soon as i added some frag racks, its been back for last week.

suck it out, clean your glass, do a water change, add GFO and carbon, make sure buildup area are getting good flow. maybe reduce your lighting cycle by 1 hour for a while too.
