The next fish I want to get for my tank is a small angel. I do have some soft corals (finger leather, zoas, star polyp, mushrooms) - and I know that angels can nip at corals, but I really love the look of them, so I'm willing to give it a try.

Is there a type of angel that is better than the others for a reef tank, or are they all as bad? I am considering a flame angel or coral beauty, but am open to possibilities.

I think generally there not recommended for reefs. But all fish are different so you never know. I think Pharm has a Coral Beauty that terrorizes his tank. If you look at there care sheets most dwarf angles or not recommended for reefs. So its up to you.

Yeah its pretty funny how different all dwarf angels are. I have had a good experience with coral beauty and an awful experience with a flame angel. There is no way to know how one will turn out. People can recommend a dwarf angel to you but its 50/50 with all of them

I had a great coral beauty - hate it that she decided to "jump" one day. We're still deciding on a replacement.

When we went to pick out the coral beauty, we had several to choose from in separate tanks. The LFS employee helping us pointed to one of the coral beauties in a tank with zoanthids and said that particular one had never touched the zoanthids. We bought that one and the same applied at home.

We're considering another dwarf or pygmy angel, but I'm afraid I'll end up with a tank terror like John's!

I would go with a coral beauty, but it's really up to you. As has been said, many people have no problems with the dwarf angels others end up with fish that terrorize their tanks.

flame angel, beautiful to look at in a reef tank. Another angel you could try that I've had great success in reefs, is the eboli angel. Has some nice markings and they're quite timid, not too aggressive and most importantly, one of the cheapest angels, so if he doesn't work out, no big deal.

i've got a coral beauty and he leaves all my corals -palys, mushrooms, sps, and frogspawn- however, each angel is different it seems and i would watch him like a hawk for a while. my CB is the crowd favorite for anyone looking at my tank!

    oh and btw

What on earth is an eboli angel? do you have a link or picture, cuz i've never heard of one.
