As for the marine betta, it is a shy fish and will hide most of the time. You also need to make sure it gets enough food if there are more aggressive fish in the tank. But besides that, it is a good fish to get. Don't know much about the jaw fish though.

When i bought my 65 gallon way back when it come with a full grown 8" marine betta. That thing was stunning i loved it by far my favorite fish. It DID hide but not all the time. It only lived for like 2 weeks after i transfered the tank to my house idk what went wrong. Only reason i didnt get another is because they cost $120 localy

They're both really cool (why choose?). There's a Marine Beta in a DT @ the LFS and I've seen him once. A guy that works there (has for 6 years) has seen him in the open a total of three times. I'd home that it's just an unusually shy one, but it doesn't sound like it. The Jawfish is one of the coolest critters I've seen and I plan on getting one without a doubt. I saw one recently and he had a den against a rock and was just chillin in there. i voted Jawfish. BTW, what are the price differences?

Fellow reefer has a marine betta and while it is definitely a beautiful fish...she is now unable to keep any shrimp in the tank....the betta eats them. Also, it does tend to hide most of the time.

As far as the blue spot with a diamond, it would depend on how much room they had. Is this for the 180? If so, that should be plenty that they would each be able to have their own space. No personal experience with the blue spot, but have talked to very reliable souces.

    Hope that helps.

I didn't think m betas were reef safe. BSJF has a lot of personality. I may get another. Mine jumped in the overflow ended up dead in the sump so anti jumper shield is a must.

Oh yeah, marine bettas will devour any ornamental shrimp, hence their not reef safe status.

I voted for the jawfish for that reason alone.

Now if you are putting it in a tank with other fish that are not reef safe in the same manner then that is another story.
