I would also suggest an Octopus. Even a NW-200 would do better than the other skimmers listed for less money and a lot less power. Moving up to the Extreme 200 is a much better skimmer and still a lot less power.

If you ask your local store, they might be willing to order one in for you. They are great skimmers for a great price.

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I will definitely look into the octopus brands, but I don't think any of the local stores sell them (I live in Canada). So I'm not sure if the octopus is an option for me. Again, the ones that I have been exposed to are the ProClear 200, the Marineland 300, and the AquaC, so I'm trying to make up my mind between those.

Check out Salt Water Connection. They are Canadian I believe, and sell Octo skimmers under their own brand name

I can agree with this. No bashing. However, I still think it is wise to buy a skimmer rated for more than your tank.

We have a 46 gallon tank. But that doesn't mean we have 46 gallons in our system. In reality, we have 55+ gallons running through that thing. So, if someone has a 50 gallon aquarium and decides to buy a skimmer rated for 50 gallons, it leaves them with very little wiggle room. If they add a sump or fuge, they'll end up running a 50 gal skimmer on a 60 or 70 gal system. I'm not sure what thatwould look like, but it might get annoying emptying the skimmer cup three times a day :D (I exaggerated every part of that a tad just to show the point btw)

Having a beefy skimmer is more of a comfort or insurance factor than anything. I would rather have a skimmer with tons of un-needed, yet available power, than have a weak skimmer and end up needing more power. I hope that makes sense. :p
