    Does anyone think you could put a white cheek tang in a 55 gallon
    the safe size tank is usually 70

    as a juvenile yes
    you could keep it a few years but then you would need a bigger tank.

    be aware tangs are big waste producers and do need nori in there diet.

    While there is a ethical consideration to keeping a big fish in a little tank(personally I would feel bad about keeping tangs in a 55 because they are so active). The main point of my recommendation is water quality, the fish will probably live a long time(relatively) in a 55 but it may hamper your water quality down the line and make it harder to keep sps.
