I'm looking to setup my 40b soon and really want it to be in a location thats better seen. I have a big window in my living room that it would fit in front of nicely. If the back of the tank is painted and the blinds are closed most of the time, will it have any adverse affects on the tank?

With the back of the tank painted and the blinds mostly closed - just as long as they are not paper thin and you prevent direct sunlight from hitting the tank walls that are exposed - I dont think you would have any adverse affects.

you have to think about how well insulated that window is also.
in the summer, the sun is going to beat on those blinds and it might make your tank heat a bit. and winter, well its going to cool down a bit. i can tell this with my tank by the window.

The back is painted what color? The typical paint is black and I'd say that would absorb too much heat on 14 hour sunlight days but help you out in the summer months. Does the window face Southwest, South, or Southeast(assuming you're in the US)? If so I'd say you should definitely do some just R/O dry runs to scope the temps. If the temps get too high paint the back matte white or semi gloss white and try again. If that doesn't work and you still want it in front of the window there is always tinting films.
