I have a xenia that has been spreading, i have a stalk growing under one of my mushrooms that does not get much light, is there a way to remove xenia from rock and move, or not?

You can cut the stalk with a sharp pair of scissors or a razor blade. I prefer scissors because the cut is clean and faster. Then take the cutting and hold it to a rock with some veil and a rubberband. It'll reattach in a week or so and you can then take the veil off.

Xenia grows by attaching itself to rock via a stolon(mat). By prying off or cutting the stolon away from the rock or even breaking the rock into pieces and then cutting the stolon with a razorblade or scisssors.
Use a rubberband to reattach temporarilly until it attaches naturally. Reefmonkey has the right idea...

I have seen mine take what I call a "pistol" (derived from the flowering plant family) from the center of a single polyp and extend itself to another rock and gee some how a few days later there is a new stalk of xenia!

Explain that one and that is not growth by the "mat" extending.......

That's how I do it per instruction from GARF's propagation page. Works like a charm. They attach quick and the mat regrows new polyps just about as quick.
I tried the rubber band method and it was to much a PITA to get the tension just right. It's either to loose and they blow out or it's to tight and kills the middle causing the two halves to fall off and get lost.

I would like to see someone grind up/put some in the blender and see how many colonies start. I just use my fingers and tear it apart. Doesn't take much to start a new colony.
