I have read much debate on what tangs can coexist. Many different opinions but man when I walk into alot of fish stores they have many tangs all together and of the same body type. So what give's, does this only apply for the people who sell them????????? Not!!!!!!!!

What chances if you put a smaller purple tang with a slightly larger yellow tang at the same time do you think they will be o.k.???????????? I know the purple tang is one of the more agressive tangs out thier but man he is a beaut.

    Let the fun begin!!!!

Sorry left out one other thing. I know it is highly recommended to qt tangs before introducing them to your main tank but I only have a 10 gallon qt wouldnt that stress the fish out even more keeping him thier for the recommended time of 4 weeks???????

It will be 120 gallon tank that I will start to cycle in a few weeks. I just would really love these 2 fish down the road when it has been up for around 6 months.

This sounds like such a bad idea to me. Yellow and purple tangs are so close physically that I can't see it working out in a 120g.

Usually when people put in 2 tangs, it's 2 tangs with different body shapes (like a zebrasoma and a cetnochatus), not 2 tangs of the same genus.

it's seriously a toss up with those two tangs. It totally depends on the fish in question and you won't know until you combine them.
Valmingi tangs and some of those other long body ones are usually peaceful, each tang species does have a general demeanor but it also varies by individual.

one thing you should remember about the fish stores they get there tangs at a discount a few die no big deal.

you and me however do not.
So when my yellow tang kills a powder blue it hurts. Then when it kills a pacific sailfin it hurts more. Then when it kills a second sailfin it hurts alot more.

but hey it got along with my kole and a lopezi tang. 2 out of 5 attempted pairing isn't to shabby I think.

edit: remembered the name lopezi tang

My friend added a 4 inch purple into his 150 gal tank. He had a show size yellow tang that was living in the tank. They yellow beat up the purple really bad and damaged all of it's fins. However, after a week or two in the tank the fish get along now. Don't know if I would personally do it. Do LOVE the purple tangs though.

My purple and sailfin get along fine.... Little rough housing in the beginning but nothing to run home and cry about. Same with My blonde naso and naso.

But like stated above, it all depends on the demeanor of the fish.

I think, personally, if you add similar sized ones at the same time, in that large a tank, it would be fine.

I wouldnt bother QT'ing tangs in such a small tank. All tangs are prone to ich, but its the blue ones that are more prone then any other.
