12" seems high.......Mine are mounted 7" off the top of the tank, so actually about 8" above the water line. From the people I have talked to........

You will need an aqua lifter pump, a storage tank, 2 float switches to be safe and the plumbing.

The aqua lifter pump will make sure you don't lose siphon if air bubbles are getting into the u tube.

It's really hard to tell form the video but as far as I can see it looks ok, setup wise. So do you have an aqua lifter?
I would be very worried leaving my setup running for a week if I was having these types of issues. Unless you have a low and high water level sensors...
I think he is asking have you tried to close the vents up some, in order to get less air in. If you get to many air bubbles it can break the siphon....

You may be getting a false reading on the nitrate test. If you have algae it could be using it all up and thats why it is reading 0 on the test. Or...
