So it doesn't trip when it's plugged directly in the actual GFCI... did you ever look into buying a new GFCI outlet all together?

Sounds like it's the wrong GFCI then in that case... 20 amp should have been printed somewhere on it. I'd really advise about putting a GFCI back in...
You can find used and new booster pumps on ebay for less than $50, some even with pressure switches too. Good luck!
I don't think that would work... Especially if it's coming out of the ballast, as MOST timers use the 110V to power themselves, as well as energizing...
While I'm sure this creates more flow then just one exhaust fan, the only issue i see with that is it would create a neutral air pressure allow dust...
