    Since this sump install I went from doing weekly water changes to every 3 weeks. I'm so glad I did this and corals are happier.

    Id add it in slowly, like a cup a day. Turn off powerheads when doing so.

    Oh man! Well, not having a skimmer isn't that bad. Just do a larger water change and it should be fine.

    I once had film on surface too. I rigged a piece of egg crate to hold some floss between chamber 1 & 2 where all the flow goes and that got rid of it...

    No check valve, if I turn off the power, water flows back in the sump but no where near the top. I do have a shut valve from my phosban reactor that...

    The only thing I can think of is maybe when draining water to move tank and then filling it shocked the corals or released nitrogen from your sand...
