best way to keep them is well is seahorse only. We have had our best luck with ORA captive bread horses they eat frozen foods right away.
I had a Seahorse tank for years (for my daughter) you will love it.
I would use the MH then and make a canopy with a nice vent so you can get the heat out. You can make it work it's cheaper than buying new lights :)
