It might be based on T5 technology, but they are no were near as good.

If your tank gained levels of ammonia when you added a fish, it clearly wasnt cycled...... A truely cycled tank will never ever show any level of...
Personally i would highly recommend not doing water changes or using chemical filtration to remove the ammonia. I would leave the tank be for the bio...
