I've had that bright red/orange pop up before too. I haven't seen it recently, but it really fluoresces. It's life seems short.

Mine rarely feeds. It will get most of it's needs via light. Odds are, it's polyps are out while you're in deep sleep. Set your alarm ;).

Maybe some brain corals: favids, acans etc. for the sand bed. Candy cane/trumpet coral work well too.

What ypu dosed probably just triggered a feeding response. Calcium, baking soda and fish food is all you need to add.
