Is it on your sand as well? I would say diatoms also, im guessing your tank is about 4-5 months old?
Welcome to 3reef. I use aragonite sand as well besides what coralline mentioned there is some fish and inverts that like sand over crushed coral...
That is pretty neat i heard one of the reasons that they decide to sink these is there is a bacteria that thrives off the properties in the steel.
