I have provided too much light with my T5HO unit. I have noticed more PE with very low nutrient levels in the tank.

You might be able to extent the lip on the outflow with some plexiglass.
Amphipods, a member of the clean up crew and food for your fish. You can leave them in the filter or dump them into your tank or refuge.

I would put it in your tank, refuge or sump. They are food for fish so that is good and they can be a decent part of your clean up crew if you can...
Most are not bad per se but they do tend to grow to such large populations that they can literally smother corals. Some also are coral eaters.
