I have mine low on the rocks and somewhat shaded in my tank.
Looks like a montipora undata. Lower the coral to regain the color. That has been my experience with T5HO and green corals.
The ends would not have light and you would need to keep that in mind when placing coral.

They will work fine in the refuge until it is time to change them.
Either way sounds effective. I would not worry about the rock having issues with rapid salinity changes since it went to regular water all at once.

No any decent bulb will do. Use bulbs in the 5000K to 6500K range for the refuge.
AquaticLife has 18" bulbs and I would get them before I bought Current or Coralife bulbs. I think the True Lumen will be decent bulbs.
