Yeah, mushrooms giant or otherwise do that. Nothing to worry about, unless you are missing any shrimps/crabs/etc.
Take your rock out and kill it. There are some critters that eat it, like tangs. I don't think it would nuke your tank unless you had insane...

Why not try a couple of sea hares? I've always wondered if in a big outbreak if it would work, they apparently clean up pretty well.
