    Makes sense, my freshwater tanks do this, too with readings before cycles. I can't believe I didn't think of that.. And thanks for the link!

    Coralife deep six Hydrometer. It's made to test salinity and gravity. What raises the salinity? The only chemical I was told to use was MicroBacter7.
