Sounds like cyanobacteria........... Flow, low nitrates, and low phosphates will help get rid of it.

I found that manual removal worked the best for me. I had ventricaria ventricosa though. Much easier to grab and remove. As with other nuisance...
Maybe time to start paying closer attention to Ammonia/nitrites and start considering a cuc8)

Yes, just heavier grade than the white teflon tape. Almost seems to mold like pipe dope does. Much easier/nicer to use.
