I think a bulkhead fitting is probably the best to use. If I'm understanding the question correctly.
Are you using live or regular sand?
I would use it for curing l/r rather than in display.

Welcome to 3reef Jim...... You are going to need a second 250 or, 1 larger heater. There are some nice titanium heaters out that come with dig....

Sorry for the loss of the fish.......... It's pretty common for algae eating blennies to starve in captivity.
