dude i think your tank is pretty damn cool. the red algae seem to be a red bubble algae, its looks pretty cool and though i have never had a bubble...
just out of curiosity why no live rock? a fare share of bioballs in the sump could do the trick
and you are right saying so, as placing the tank near direct sunlight will only promote algae growth. most bulbs that come in freshwater aquariums...
