Why would that shorten diode lifespan? LEDs are meant to be able to handle that. They can handle variable voltage with no problem.

+1. I think those would OK, but certainly not when added all at one time. The tank needas to be able to catch up with the bio-load.
You could always buy the carbon/GFO reactor(s) and have them hang on the side of the sump.
If you want to, I wouldn't mind having some of your toys so you can buy new ones for your tank.. :-/(lol)
