    No, it doesnt help your beneficial bacteria as they feed off of nitrogenous wastes only. but, i would leave your actinics on, if you have them.

    no, leave the line from overflow to sump open, but close line from return to display tank just a little ;)

    You probably wiped away the "Slime" that "Breaks in" a skimmer. Give it a day or two and it will rectify it self :)

    I would say the pad should go under the disc, so it doesnt block flow :) Umm, I think you should rinse any chemical media before use, but im not sure...
