    And yes a skimmer is a good idea.. They are not nessesay though.. IMO I don't have a skimmer at the moment and everything is running smoothly....

    Adding dry base rock like the one from reef cleaners won't cause an ammonia spike to my uderstanding because they have nothing on them to cause it....
