you'll want to test and dose (accurately) for calcium and alk regularly, as well as magnesium... water changes alone won't likely keep up with demand.
for the sandbed, get a sandsifting diamond goby... I love mine, keeps the sand sparkly white ;D edit: oops, nm just saw you're moving the sand......
