get a reef octopus.. I just got one.. I used to have a coralife 65 and the quality alone of the octopus will make you never want a cheap skimmer...
I have it and my corals have been growing for over a year.. just keep them in the top 1/3rd of the tank.
I doubt its going to hurt anything as is, but with the addition of a powerhead pointed at the surface will break it up..

no it runs 24/7, I just have 2 koralias in my sump that are on a timer to run about 30 minutes a night.. One is in the fuge, one in the skimmer...
Im sure its fine.. I have a koralia in my skimmer section to keep the detrius suspended at night.. It seems to be working..
it was probably sick. a healthy octopus could have easily gotten away from that..
