sounds like it. they aren't toxic, but they can be really nasty if they deteriorate for some time and/or ink up your tank. Ink seems to stress out...

+1 for some light dusting algae...toothbrush always....mag floats are good for bulk jobs...
sounds like you have a green coralline on your glass problem - film algae is ridiculously easy to wipe off, the green coralline can be hard. now...
