    If your having trouble with maintaining the 55 I would suggest not setting up a smaller tank. Smaller tanks generally leave less room for error. IMHO

    Sounds about right for sps , you could add more if it is predominately an sps tank but some lps wouldn't be happy unless you hide them in lower flow...
