As long as he is eating i would not worry. Hippo Tangs are know for ich and well it happens and passes. Just let him be and all should be fine.
IMO i wouldnt worry about you tank being 80 or 81 as long as it is a slow rise and not rapid. If you livestock isnt sufforing I would let be what is.
Wow I like the color on that one. JUst remember you will need to feed him until he is about 2 in (i believe is the magic number)

Welcome to 3 reef. I am from ashtabula ohio and do most of my shopping at salty critter they have many rock bins set up you can take a look at.
I also am running an ASM G2 on my 72 gallon and am looking into an ASM G4 for the upcoming 150.
My first tnk was that exact tank and i just sold it to someone starting out in the hobby. Good luck and caint wait to see it progress.
My opinion would be a crap shoot. You never really know.
Agreed i keep my carbon in a phosbane style reactor and it seems to work good for me.
