Bulkreefsupply sells vibration pads that work pretty well, or you could try a piece of styrofoam.
I guess it depends, mine actually stays on the glass more than the liverock.
It won't hurt your tank, It just won't have as much coraline in it, which is a good thing if you hate cleaning your glass as much as I do.
They can mow down some coraline, how big is your tank? If your params are good and the tank is big enough I doubt it will eat it faster than it is...

I would just rinse it to get any dirt or dust off. That's about it. Nothing to worry about.
