    Can't get that link to work. Not sure what u mean about carbon not being the only chemical filtration .... I said carbon or other substance.

    A protein skimmer is not chemical filtration it is mechanical. Chemical filtration is using a substance such as carbon or an absorbing agent....

    What type of chemicals do you run in your skimmer? Seems like mechanical only to me.

    I got two 500w titanium heaters from eBay and have been really happy. :) I use one in tank and one for water changes...heats water supa fast.

    Also.. what is your water source? RO/DI hopefully and with newer filters. If the TDS starts to get high some of the silicates will make it through...

    Black Light Effect?

    I use sunpaq dual spectrum 420/460 bulbs. They make things glow more than normal actinics. My LFS uses them for that reason.
