It could be the purple lobster or even a bristle worm,I would keep an eye out but i wouldn't worry about the tang too much.
i would consider them more of a weed than a coral once they start spreading they are a PITA!, i regret putting them in my tank.

i have a g2 on my 120 and it works great, i just picked up a g3 on cl for $75. $150 isn't a great deal imo but it's cheaper than a new one.
