    You can use an open-ended airline if you don't have a PH. Just get a length of rigid airline tubing and put it where you need it in the tank....

    That overflow looks fine...I'd go ahead and use it. As a part of your regular routine, take a peek at the U-tube and clear out any bubbles or algae...
