I think that sounds like a better option for the plants anyways.
The only thing about using only sand is that the roots will have a hard time grabbing hold of something to stay in the ground.
I don't think you will need to break it in. It might just take a a day or so to start producing good skimmate is all.
Welcome to 3reef! :) I'm glad you found a way to get the Copperband Butterfly to eat.
I don't see why not. I would ask John (2in10). He has a gorgeous planted tank....
Not to hi-jack this thread or anything, but here is my thread on the BakPak skimmer:...
As for breaking in the skimmer, most come with directions on how to do that. I know my BakPak said to rinse it out with warm - hot water and then run...
Gook luck and keep us updated. Hopefully the wrasse will pull through for you.

What happened to the 4 line wrasse? Mozilla/4.0 (BREW 3.1.5; U; en-us; Sanyo; NetFront/3.5.1/AMB) Boost SCP6760

Thanks, do you think that my flasher wrasse might be at risk?
The only reason that I ask is because I have one. I want to get it out of the tank though if he will end up eating my fish though. He hides all day...
Do Banded Coral Shrimp eat fish? I have read that they don't, but I overheard the other day that have been known to.
I prefer to go light in saltwater and heavy in freshwater lol.
Mud Clowns That is awesome "Mud Clowns"! :) My wife loves the name actually. We might just have to trademark that name so nobody steals it lol. ;D
That is a big difference in the lighting. Welcome to 3reef as well. :)
I would talk with John at reefcleaners.org, he will hook you up if you want. I run aquaclear 50's on my 40 breeder with no problems. I only have 4...
I almost had the wife convinced to get a 46 gallon bowfront that was on craigslist the other day. She decided she didn't want it lol and we came home...
