    I usually make the water, then slowly add the sand then rock (if you put sand down first) water blows it everywhere!!! ha ha ha

    You want to add the LR to water. The longer the LR is out of the water the more die off will occur.

    If the water level in your sump is stable (not fluctuating up and down) the water level in the skimmer should stay solid.
