once washed and sanitized it would work good for a sump although in my opinion a touch small for a 55g tank I would recomend a 20g tank for a 55...
to me from your description of the nem it sounds like it may be aiptista I would sugest aking it out of the tank asap and putting it into isolation...

I personaly would not recomend anyone purchase any coral without lots of reasearch on the type and also most brains and sps corals are a big no no...
