baffles help to keep what you have in there from being moved around by the water flow, as for the plumbing that is what you prefer to use.
You need to get the type that is for fish tanks, some types will lech out stuff in to the water.

Were are the leaks? If they are in the joints can you use some silicon to fix it?
Also check the o-rings for any nicks or cracks in it, and check the nipple that the hose goes on for cracks or out of round.

I have 2 powersweeps 214 befind the LR, and a 402 in the top right hand corner for overall water movement, along with the Seaclone 100 and filter.
