    It is a bacterial bloom, most likely from disturbing the substrate to add the plants. Nothing you can do but wait it out, sometimes excessive water...

    yup snails are horrid when they die. I had a huge apple snail die on me in a FW tank a long time ago and holy hell it stunk when I fished him out....
