im pretty sure most of the black ones are bottom dwellers only and eat the bottom detrius. do you have a pic? The green one is nasty though.

i would think it is a sponge. i have what appears to be the exact same thing on some rocks i bought. if you dont like it just cut it out.

dont waste your time with the shrimp.... i tried it and nothing happened! but thats just my tank. all tanks vary from setup to setup.
they should be fine. if there is food on the bottom they will find it! I did start with 14... but now i am down to about 7-9.
