I had an octopus for a good five months and let me tell you it will kill anything that you put in a tank with it..... they are very cool but...
bulbs are less than six months old, ive got three turbos in there and probly ten other assorted snails and then ive got probably fifteen hermit crabs

move it to the 24 but acclimate it, keep testing the 12 and see if your tank goes through another cycle, how many watts of light do you have?
I did some reading on them and they seem fairly hardy, its just a gorgeous piece and i want to make sure i dont lose it, it also seems to be pretty...
also by adding more live sand you may have thrown your tank into a new cycle
