    yea it does. your overflow is supposed to act like a controlled siphon. try to be more descriptive in your post about what you don't understand.

    us the ball valve connected to it to slow the flow. also you loose power when you pump water through a tube(especially against gravity) in reality...

    I wouldn't worry about the nitrate in the sump, just do a change later when you have the salt. I would rinse the bioballs once before you use them....
