Not exactly today, but I've learned to never start a small tank with the intention of upgrading. It's a lot cheaper, faster, and easier to build the...
I'd like to see some pics of your setup. With the sump under the DT, your drain would be unrestricted and the overflow would maintain the water...
That should be fine. Just make sure all returns are at or near the surface of the water in the DT to limit backflow in the event of a power outage.
A lot of systems use 1" drain and 3/4" return. I don't see a problem with it.
+1 While not desirable, a NO3 reading of up to 50 is mostly harmless. Slow down, Cowpoke! You're going to turn the hobby into a stressful,...
Oh, the shame!! Immoral beasts!! lol Actually no, it's not normal. Typically, two pairs don't get along at all unless they're in a tank large enough...
How long has your tank been cycling, and what's your exact Nitrite level? IIRC, it was Dr. Tim who posted a few months ago about how excess Nitrite...
I was thinking it would be better to go a little smaller and have the wider space for scaping, but since you plan to upgrade, I must agree with this:...
I'm not an LED man myself, but here's a bump for your thread. Hopefully someone from the evening crowd can provide an answer.
+2 totally agreed. FWIW, the 12" width is very restricting, even with my 29h. I'd suggest a 65, or at least a 40B. The 55 might be ok for smaller...
Nope. IMO, it's the same. With mostly dry rock, you want the DOCs to remain to help boost your bio-filter. With uncured live rock, OTOH, you'll get...
Reef Cleaners is the best for CuC; you get a cleaner pack tailored to your tank, not a generic "xx per gallon" where the numbers are ridiculous and...
Looks great from my chair! Congrats on the new system, and welcome to 3Reef!
Everybody has an opinion; Take any advice with a grain of salt and let your tank be your guide. How are your corals? Healthy? Colorful? Growing?...
Agreed. And yes, you can test only Ammonia until it drops near 0, then start testing Nitrite. You don't really need to know your Nitrate level until...
To balance the transition and place your "high-noon" in the middle of your lighting schedule, you could change it to: 9 AM - 11 AM: 2 bulbs 11 AM -...
Their own caution "May raise pH levels" gives me cause for concern. Rock should not alter pH unless it's leaching something into the water. I'd...
+1 BTW, great job with the focuser, Matt... I never would've thought of that. Oh, and you now officially qualify to run for President. :D
Very nice pics, OFK. FTR, I have to get my daughter to take my pics. When I try to use my auto-focus digital camera, every pic is so blurry that all...
Very beautiful tank, Todd!
