no all xenias do not pulse, i have also heard of people buying pulsing xenias to bring them home and have them not pulse in there tanks, i think...

not to be the bearrer of bad news but i think all(?) species of linkias rarely make it in a home aquarium...if i recall correctly i think someone was...
BTW if your emerald was munching on him, it might have allready been dead, i have a 10 gallon, and had an emerald for a little while and noticed they...

i would strongly suggest you go without starfish if your going to get a hawkfish, i have only heard some very bad things about them... and linkias...
