i think the bacteria may be in your basement so cleaning the tub won't do much, im guessing it is high in humidity like most reefers homes.

is your ro filter worn out? do you cover your water with a top? where do you store your water? do you have the same problem with saltwater?
storing them with a power head may solve this problem and prevent the water from going stagnate.

i would recommend, a coralife 125 or a octopus skimmer.
their both around the same in my eyes. its what ever you want, the only difference is with the t5 you could have actinics
its because the ballast that comes with the systems are weak. i think bluelife bulbs work based on this thread....
