Almost impossible to tell without seeing the source. Possibly feeding strands from a vermitid snail. It is a safe snail but it can irritate corals...

You should look into getting fine grain sand for the spot you put the plate. This will keep it from damaging its flesh from inflating and deflating...
Lash length seems to be controlled most by flow IME.
