Surface agitation= increases the over all pH, more O2. In my tanks I have found that at higher pHs I have decreased algae.
Just have to play with the direction a lot, frustrating I know. Increase surface agitation too if you can.
Sugar fine sand tends to do that. Improve flow as mentioned above. I do not see a reason why you should put off adding corals.
