I would brush them down to get as much dead material off of them to keep a cycle to a minimum.
Just remember to get the difference you need the right ballast to get the bulb to operate at the wattage.
Would be OK for a softies tank. If you are looking to do a mixed tank I would put in blue bulbs for the actinics. You might be able to get away...

If the actinic say actinic+ then you can keep anything you want. If you can run the blues 10 to 12 hours a day and the whites 8 to 10 hours a day....
