I haven't heard of anyone having luck with them until now. There tend to be acclimation issues because the plants have been out of the water so long.

Coral are remarkably resilient as long as the water parameters meet their needs, so I would say no need for new glasses yet.

The egg crate should help keep the fan out of the water. That is tough to position well, don't blow the fan directly on the water but across it.
Don't buy them they will wilt and die in your tank. Worse than that most are for terrariums.

Spirorbid worms. You will find them hard to the touch if they are the feather dusters I am thinking of.
