    I kept with sps never had an issue, mostly stayed put. For 12 bucks I would pick up several if your tank is not solely sps dominated.

    Do I need to use carbon?

    You do not have to, but I agree it's a great idea. Spending money on carbon compared to the cost of fish and inverts, seems like a wise choice to me.
